My Meeting with the Lipstick Queen!

She's sweet, unique and best of all she's a professional girly girl,my dream job!!! Her name is Poppy King and she is a lipstick brain child, literally she was 18 when she created Poppy industries back in her home Australia. Her indie company shot to millions within months. This situation was a wild lipstick fairy tale with many challenges that where tried and true and unconventionally dealt with, winning her ultimate feet, being bought out by Barnie's NY. She managed to conquer and deliver many lipstick obstacles in the cosmetic industry.

A few days ago I was talking about going to Henri Bendel to get lipstick wonder Poppy King to sign my book (and I made her kiss it) "Lessons of a Lipstick Queen". We chatted, she put a bunch of different super shiny glosses on my pouty lips. I loved every single color, but settled on one lipstick one gloss. She lives downtown so one day we might get lunch. Oh and "Gossip Girl" star Blake Lively came in and bought 7 copies.

So one of the glosses I got was Silver Shimmer. Wear it alone in the sun light your lips will sparkle its basically clear. She applied it over a matte lipstick (which she is famous for inventing as a teen in the 90's)

Fashion Show Line outside THE BLONDS

You can tell a bit about a designer by the crowds outside its line, just waiting to get into the big show. THE BLONDS had all the right kind of cool outside. Rockstars,Fashion illustrators,a touch of uptown but mostly downtown taste makers.

My old pal Oakley Munson who currently has a band, with girlfriend Kristen named "Puddin Tang",Oakley is also the ex lead singer for "The Witnesses" a band that was making headlines in the earlier part of this century.

Die J Mars above has a band called "Tulips for Tina",he is an in house stylist at Patricia Field's and is responsible for getting the "Page SIX,SIX,SIX" t-shirt by SOPHOMORE on to Britney Spear's for the VMA awards.

Pipa McManus above is a fashion illustrator with hot hair that was appropriate for the BLOND fashion show. She was responsible for designing the Aurelio Costarella invite.

Pretty PR Girls working the door for THE BLONDS show outside the Altman Building.

The Rejected Trustfund Baby

Sophia Zamirh is exactly the title of this write up. An heiress with zero access to $$$. Weird,I know, especially in NYC. Anyway she bought this crystal bouncy ball for me from MOMA and anyone I've shown it to agrees its the most beautiful thing in the world. I use it as a good luck charm and so far it has worked beautiful wonders.

We met at Henri Bendel at a recent trade show. We swapped cards and before you know it we where saying cheers over non alcoholic cocktails in Tribecca.

Sophia Zamirh is a fictionalized name I'm using to keep her google safe.

Couture Gems

One of my favorite blogs I check regularly is Trendelacreme. I find all sorts of stuff on my blogger explorations. I stumble upon links I'd never get to through other stylistas online. Which is how I found the following.

Check out Lydia Courteille Collection...and other decadent delights that you can buy on www.CoutureLab.com

Keeping the Designer Alive and not Corporate Yet....

As you all may know by now my pretty little neighbor Liz helped me out this past month. We collaborated in a project where she took my logo and carved it into some copper, then proceeded to dip them in white gold. They are a limited edition so if you want a pair you can buy them on her Etsy account currently.

Go visit the dreamy wonderland of 24Karas on her blogspot account!!!

I also want to take this chance to showcase some of her own work that is of her unique nature 100% 24Karas!!! Lizzy loves the sea,all things natural and of organic nature. I want to try and help Liz and all my friends like her. Meaning I want all my friends to be able to make a living out of what they love to do most.

Thanks to Stylehive.com for covering me with my girls at Gossip Girl Nights!!!

Last night I headed over to Gossip Girl Nights, appropriately held at a little Upper East Side spot called Pop Lounge. The weekly, fashionindie-sponsored event is the kind of thing that makes me wish I lived in NYC, or at least visited more. Every Monday a different designer from the show is featured. This week's event showcased Angel Lust by Kristen May, an adorable line of headbands and bows that are perfect for turning up the charm on your sweet (and even your not-so-sweet) outfits. The retro-style lounge was ideal spot for indulging in cocktails and appetizers and a few OMFGs, naturally, and when the episode ended I had a chance to chat with the incredibly sweet Kristen herself, along with a few of her friends. Topics ranged from vintage shopping to blogging to grandmas (yup), and my way out i was treated to a gift bag filled with chocolates from the Chocolate Bar at Bendel's (where Kristen's pieces have been showcased) and a few other girly treats. You can find Angel Lust headbands, including the must-have rockstar-inspired Spring 2009 collection at Patricia Field in NYC, revolveclothing.com, and at her Etsy shop. Check out Kristen's blog for more pics from the night, and keep up with her work...psst, her true passion is clothing design!

Walk all over Cancer in your Designer Shoes!!!

Breast cancer month is around the corner. Next month to be exact. I've always wanted to do charitable things with fashion in order to raise money for breast cancer research. I can't imagine how devastating it would be to be attacked by such a monster.

Designers are yet again using their creativity to serve as charity. Designing one of a kind shoes to showcase or anti breast cancer t-shirts,in an effort to raise money for cancer research. Nothing like the good time spirit of fashion to kill an ugly disease.

Chris Han Stunning Catwalk Show!!!

My footage of the Chris Han show...

Chris Han is another designer MAO PR brings to the tents. Her RTW clothing brings a deep sense of femininity to the catwalk, her own prints and intense draping action in certain pieces. Chris Han is a master of romance, sophisticated romance that is. These pieces are for the girly girl who has blossomed into a mature woman.

I look forward to seeing Chris Han grow as a designer. She is no stranger to fabric manipulation (a true sign of a formally trained designer a la Parson's School of Design)!!!

In an industry that is now being taken over by the actress/celebutant/pop star clothing lines, Thank God for MAO the showroom/PR house that is dead set intent on keeping authentic talent alive.

Aurelio Cotarrella brings on the Theatrics of Fashion

Aurelio Costarella's Spring 2009 was filled with airy earth tones such as muted yellow gowns, and light draped dresses. Aurelio made excellent use of ruffles. If I had to use one word for this collection, sculptural comes to mind. Not sculptural in the avant guard sense (how to make woman look awful and ridiculous). All silhouettes where sculpted to bring out the most sophisticated upscale woman who attend high end events.

I made an attempt to tape this show because you will see all the pictures online however you will miss out on the dreamy movement of the fabric, and watching the ruffles flounce!!! This show was conveniently shown after the Zac Posen show,so viewers could rush over to Aurelio who may not be as big as Zac put shows great potential if given the chance with backers and sponsors Aurelio Costarrella will have the ability to match or surpass Zac's shows without a doubt.

Backstage and name dropping at THE BLONDS

New York fashion week tends to be a bit seemingly boring at times. All shows thrown by MAO never seem to fail me. Last night if you missed Phillipe and David Blond's runway costume design extravaganza, then you missed out big. and I'm not just talking about the actual show. The crowd was equally important, the front row was filled with every hot fashionista brat in the business. Pat Field sat front row with shades on, yielding the flashing cameras. World famous Amanda Lepore was up front in her frilly pink frock, when the spotlight wasn't on here then it was on Andre J. No true MAO fashion show is absolutely complete without the legendary Warhol superstar Sylvia Miles with the Baroness Sherry von Korber-Bernstein and her feathered hats!!!

But enough party talk. I want to praise the Blond's for spicing up fashion week with their blingged out corsets, jeweled flesh toned bathing suits and feathered goods.

Thank you Coutorture for supplying pictures from the show.

This glammed up show was heavily accented with the finest jewels designed by Ramona Boucher, her couture jewelry line is called BASTION. I stumbled upon the table and chatted up with Ramona herself. To my surprise she told me that she designed that famous to die for rose diamond ring that Samantha owned on "Sex in the City" the movie!!! I told her a little bit about my baby headband company Angel Lust, and she said "Well maybe you and I should get together and design some head pieces together",My jaw dropped as she slipped me her business card. All I could think was "PROMISE???"...

She handed me one of her gorgeous rocks on a ring and said try it on,OMG was it hard to take off. Her good friend Chad helped me out in that area. Take a closer look at the beautiful rocks in his hands.

All the models where clad in blond wigs naturally, and their nails where even decked out like a disco ball with the help of Creative Nail Designs.

The crow clapped ridiculously hard as super model Alek walk out but it was nothing compared to the applause Phillipe Blond got himself as he strutted the runway at the end.

This was a true fashion moment that hasn't happened since Teri Toye hit the scene in the 80's.

Here is one of the little models backstage getting her hair undone.

Here's me with my crazy Japanese vixen hair dresser Ayumie. She's been working at the Patricia Field hair Salon for like 13 years now and anyone I send to her they leave happy and go back for more. Mention my name "KRISTEN" and you just might get the girlfriend discount...But no promises!!!

Elise Overland does things her way...

Elise Overland is someone I went to school with at one point in time and has always inspired me because she did things her own way even though none of the teachers understood her. Oh and because she used to custom make things for Steven Tyler. Watch this video to take some of the advice from her and other designers.

Elle Werlin high fashion stylist extraordinair!!!

The most chill out down to earth high fashion stylist I've ever met. I don't think it was coincidental we sat next to each other. The kindhearted stylista exchanged info with me so she could use my stuff possibly for upcoming shoots. Thanks so much for the inspiration Elle Merlin!!!

Check out her site: www.EllwWerlyin.com she is my current new fave in the fashion world I am in...

Lesson's of a Lipstick Queen

Attention: Young entrepreneurs...Be smart and educate yourselves!!!

Read this inspiring book by Poppy King. I've talked about it before and I can't stress it enough. It's a get ahead book with a wonderful tale of a wayward teen aged girl who couldn't find the perfect shade or consistency of lipstick. She then went on to make it within months she reached one million in sales. She will be doing a signing at HENRI BENDEL this week starting the 11th. I can't wait to meet this incredible business woman. She sold her line to Barney's NY a top notch world renown department store.
